Obituary for Claude Daniel "Duke" Molton

Mr. Claude Daniel “Duke” Molton, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019, at St. Claire Healthcare in Morehead, Kentucky, after a short illness.

He was born April 25, 1944, in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late George H. and Mildred Bate Molton.

Duke attended the Olive Hill Church of the Nazarene and was converted on July 1, 2018. He wanted to attend church whenever he was able and was baptized on August 5, 2018. Duke was a 1962 graduate of Rowan County High School and later served six years in the Kentucky National Guard.

Duke was a retired grocery manager. He worked for many years for the Allen Bros. in Morehead and Olive Hill and later for Slone’s Big Value in Grayson and Morehead. He tried to work part-time before his health did not allow him to continue. Duke made many friends and acquaintances everywhere he worked as he enjoyed being around people.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Gayle Molton, and two brothers, James D. Molton and George H. “Joe” Molton.

Duke is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sandra Jill Maddix Molton; one son, George Daniel Molton (Nicole) of Georgetown, Kentucky, and their children, Braci and Jacob; one daughter, Sarah Jo Molton (fiancé Isaiah Holbrook) of Olive Hill, Kentucky; three step-sons, Tim Molton (Tammy) of Maysville, Kentucky, and their children, Brandon and Braxton, Cameron Molton (Pam) of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and their daughter, Cammi, and Scott Molton of Mount Sterling, Kenutcky, and his children, Karla, Derek, and Dylan; one brother, William Molton (Sara Jane) of Olive Hill, Kentucky; two sisters, Barbara Waggoner and Etta McHugh, both of Maysville, Kentucky; and two special friends, Scott Tackett and Kayla Lowe Stafford. He also leaves several special nieces, nephews and other close family members who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with George Molton, Tim Molton, and Brother Joe Foltz officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Memorial Park in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with full military honors presented by the Olive Hill American Legion Post # 138.

Friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019, and after 9 a.m. on Monday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.

George Molton, Scott Molton, Tim Molton, Cameron Molton, David McRoberts, and Scott Tackett will serve as pallbearers. Bryan Yeary, Wilson Maggard, Buck Rayburn, Sammy Maddix Jr., John McHugh, and any former employees will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Duke’s memory to the Olive Hill Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, P.O. Box 504, Olive Hill, Kentucky, or the Lexington Shriners Hospital for Children, 3206, 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, Kentucky 40508.
