Obituary for Earl Cletis Zornes

Mr. Earl Cletis Zornes, age 74, of Vanceburg, Kentucky, passed away Saturday evening, September 30, 2017, at his residence.

He was born September 18, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, a son of the late Harry Garland and Thelma Mae Stone Zornes.

Earl was of the Pentecostal faith and worked as a self employed logger. He enjoyed logging, fishing, hunting, cooking and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Timothy John “Pork” Zornes; four brothers, Donald Jo Zornes, Junior O’Dell Zornes, James Anderson Zornes and Paul Donald Zornes; and two sisters, Judy Applegate and Evelyn Swim.

Earl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Louise Renchen Zornes; two sons, Darrell Cletis Zornes (Lea Cooley) and D.C. Zornes, all of Vanceburg, Kentucky; one daughter, Betty Dyer (Arnold) of Vanceburg, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren, Connie (Jamie) Fields, Slug, Heather (TJ) Barga, MeMe (Jason), Ashley, Tyson, Matthew (Haleigh), Shawn (Ashley), Erica, Jessica, Nathan, and Jay; 13 great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Johnny Elwood Zornes (Anna Marie) of Panama City, Panama, and Denene Zornes of Tollesboro, Kentucky; and four sisters, Glenda Gilliam (James), Loretta Lewis, and Cathy Howe (Brian), all of Vanceburg, Kentucky, and Kay Walters of Indiana. He also leaves many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, Kentucky, with Brother Tony Corns officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis County Memory Gardens in Vanceburg, Kentucky.

Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street, Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
