Obituary for Chester Elbert "Chetty" Thayer Jr.

Mr. Chester Elbert “Chetty” Thayer Jr., age 75, of Garrison, Kentucky passed away Friday, June 15, 2018, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia.

He was born September 19, 1942, in Pennsylvania, a son of the late Chester and Daisy Bivens Thayer.

Chetty proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends, especially with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Allen Thayer.

Chetty is survived by his wife, Lynda Jo Frye, the loving mother of his children; two sons, Chester Thayer III and Sherman D. Thayer, both of Garrison, Kentucky; two daughters, Melissa Jane Blake and Allison Lee Horsley, both of Garrison, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three brothers, Jarrell Dean Thayer of Valrico, Florida, Gail “Peanut” Thayer and Wayne Thayer, both of Garrison, Kentucky. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel in Garrison, Kentucky, with Brother Ben Collier officiating. Burial will follow in the Bivens Cemetery in Quincy, Kentucky, with full military honors presented by the Monte Lewis Stamm Post #5438.

Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018, and after 9 a.m. on Friday at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 103 Dudley Avenue, Garrison, Kentucky 41141.

Roger Thayer, Brian Thayer, Dalton Horsley, Keyan Blake, Larry Veach, Loren Huffman, and Cody Henson will serve as pallbearers.
